As I begin this communication, I am struck by the most frequent greeting of late that seems to be, “I hope you are safe and well”. How different that is from the greeting we have come to expect as, “Good morning, how are you today?” These are different and somewhat uncertain times, and I sincerely hope you are safe and well.
We love the Silly Snake song, which helped us to focus on our new letter this week! Our sunflowers with seeds brightened up our classroom, and we sampled some scrumptious snacks that helped us remember the sound that letter S makes. Scooby snacks, string cheese, and rainbow sherbet were our favorites! Coach Spain was the perfect guest to read to us on Silly Sock Day!
The boys continued to sharpen their rhyming skills this week as we learned more about Dr. Seuss and his love of silly words that sound the same. Ask your son if he can tell you two words that rhyme.
We’ve been hard at work practicing using construction tools to saw, measure, hammer, and build. Our guys have loved working with their hands in class. Playing with our counting cars, construction set, workbench, and space center have been our favorites. Have a super weekend!
Our P week was packed with learning! We learned the song for Penelope Pig and talked about things that begin with the /p/ sound. We practiced our “pinch, pinch, pull” skills when opening our packages this week. We especially enjoyed our “P” snacks such as pita chips, Poptarts, and potato chips. Popping popcorn was so much fun. We tasted different kinds of pickles and we even made pancakes! We also practiced holding crayons and cutting paper. There are lots of “p” things to do at school! We are painting, pasting, and using our pencils. Playing with our puppets and PlayDoh was fun, too.
Celebrating our 100th day of PK was a great way to start our week! We learned what the numeral 10 looks like, and we made ten groups of 10 with many things around our classroom. We are learning how we can count 10 pennies to trade for a dime. Also, 10 dimes make one dollar! Ask your son to count by tens to 100 for you!
Have a great weekend!
The boys did some OUTSTANDING work this week learning how to build letter O, singing Octopus Stew, counting o’s, and naming things that begin with the /o/ sound. They have also been working with number 9 and practicing their cutting skills. Everyone was over the moon about eating Fruity O’s, Oreos, and making our own oatmeal! We even tasted green and black olives! “The Office” center was a big hit this week, and the boys loved playing with calculators, writing notes, and making important phone calls. We learned some interesting things about an octopus as well as a few other creatures that live in the ocean.
We hope you enjoy your weekend!
