Welcome back! We have missed all of these smiling faces and have loved hearing about everyone’s break! We especially loved welcoming our new student, Charlie, into the classroom. The boys love having a new classmate!

We have begun January by diving into our season of winter! We watched a BrainPop, Jr. and learned about how the Earth orbits the sun, and it tilts away during winter, making it feel cold outside! We read Snowmen at Night by Caralyn Buehner and then created our own winter scene at night.

Our week was off to an exciting start with the introduction of the letter, Vv, and our volcano lettercard!  We watched a Reading Rainbow video on the book, Hill of Fire by Thomas P. Lewis and discussed what happens when a volcano erupts.  We practiced handwriting V’s on dry erase boards and loved seeing what Maggie munched!

We have begun our study of graphing this week, and we have graphed a lot of information and learned a lot about our friends! Who knew graphs could tell us so much?   The boys enjoyed doing their very own graph survey around the EC building asking teachers particular questions!

Looking ahead to next week, we will begin our study of the letter Ww. In math, we will focus on identifying and creating 3-part patterns by color, size, and kind. We will continue our study of winter and begin to learn how other animals cope with cold temperatures!

What an unbelievable week we have had in JK! We introduced the letter Uu
and made our umbrella letter cards. We read “Aliens Love Underpants"
by Claire Freedman and practiced  handwriting Uu.
We continued learning how to write numbers focusing on 6- 10 this week. We
will send home the wording we use when writing each number. Please
practice over the holiday.
Santa and Rudolph have been big topics this week as we prepare for the
Christmas break.
We are looking forward to our Christmas party next week
and hope to have a special visitor stop by for a quick visit!

The Christmas season is upon us! We are lucky to be learning about the letter Ll in Junior Kindergarten. We began our week by creating Christmas lights on our Ll lettercard. We generated as many Ll words as we could think of and drew pictures of our favorite Ll words after Maggie visited! We also played with legos, light brights and Lincoln logs!

We practiced writing the numbers 3-5 this week! We have practiced our handwriting on magic slates, whiteboards, and on doodle boards. We would encourage you to continue practicing writing numbers at home as well!

We have begun our Christmas unit with a study of the Nativity. We have been reading The Story of Christmas by Linda Jennings and have been learning about Gabriel who came to visit Mary with the special message that she was to be the mother of God’s son, Jesus. We continued to learn about the special Jerusalem donkey that carried Mary to Bethlehem with Joseph and that they were grateful for the stable in which they stayed to give birth to baby Jesus. We have been working on a special nativity art project all week.
