Young Scholars Update - Spring 2023

Young Scholars Update - Spring 2023

Young Scholars Update - Spring 2023

As we approach the end of the school year, I want to remind you of the impact and importance of your commitment to the Young Scholars program. During this season, we are typically more reflective of our progress and our learning and looking ahead to next year.

Second Presbyterian Foundation Match Opportunity

Through the end of this calendar year, Second Presbyterian Church Foundation is matching gifts made to the PDS Young Scholars Program. Thanks to your generosity, PDS is approaching the goal of one million dollars raised towards the Young Scholars Program match. Currently, the foundation has matched up to $540,000 in gift and pledges towards Young Scholar, and we have until December 31, 2023 to reach the goal of one million dollars.

With the funds raised through the match opportunity, PDS can immediately increase the number of current Young Scholars, providing three additional Young Scholar spots in perpetuity.

More Young Scholars Enrolling Next Year!

I am excited to announce that PDS is welcoming three more Young Scholars to the school! Your gifts have allowed us to grow the program and welcome new students to the PDS community. We believe that education is a powerful tool for change, and we are grateful for the support of our donors who share in this belief.

As we met with the new families, one theme was clear: blessing. Your involvement with the Young Scholars program is a blessing to the Young Scholar students, as well as the PDS community as a whole. My hope is that the program has been a blessing to you as well.

Each Young Scholar at PDS receives a unique educational opportunity with challenging academics, nurturing teachers, and experiential learning.  Additionally, your gift creates new friendships amongst all of our PDS boys. If you know of families who might be interested in the Young Scholars program or a young boy who could benefit from this opportunity, please reach out to us. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these Young Scholars and ultimately, in the future of our community.

‍Quote from a Young Scholar Parent

"The Young Scholars Program at PDS has provided us an opportunity for our son to receive a quality education and male mentorship in a healthy Christian environment. Our son has made great friends, connected with role models, received counseling, joined the chess club, and is a part of the PDS band. I believe that these experiences wouldn't be possible without your generosity and commitment to diversity in many ways. I will never forget the first time I met with the former head of school at PDS. My heart was overwhelmed and my eyes started to water when the Young Scholars Program was offered to us. And now my son is entering the 6th grade in the Fall of 2023. PDS has been such a blessing to our family, and I am excited for him to enter middle school ready and prepared for his future. I will forever be grateful for the chance we were given and the impact PDS has made on our lives."
