She made a lengthy presentation about each Ranger in Time book and the extensive onsite research for primary sources and historical facts that were used in the creation of each storyline. The library provided a cozy setting for Ms. Messner’s discussion and storytelling with open questions from the boys who were eager to hear more about her life and writing.
Entertaining, interesting, talented, and humble would aptly describe Kate Messner. Stories of her desire to be a writer as early as seven years of age and her love of reading were shared. She recounted that her first book was rejected twenty-six times by publishers; yet, she never gave up. She has written 30 books and will publish two more by the summer of 2018 in the Ranger in Time series.
Kate Messner was well received by all of the PDS boys. When asked what they liked most about the skype, Ivey Taylor remarked, “She helped me understand what is needed in writing a book.” While Maddox Yarbrough stated, “I liked hearing about where she visited and how she came up with the interesting facts to put in her books.” “I liked actually getting to speak to an author,” interjected Benjamin Nichol. How fortunate we were to have Kate Messner share her wealth of information with our avid readers in the 2nd and 3rd grades!
