This week’s letter is “Oo”. We will be working on the short “o” sound as in octopus. Our sight words are “down,” “to,” “my,” “go” and the color words. Please practice writing and reading these words at home.

We will have Oscar’s Rotten Birthday on Friday. This should be lots of fun! Look for a note in your son’s folder this week about what each boy can bring to the birthday party. We have been practicing handwriting this week on our Handwriting Without Tears Paper and the boys are doing great! If you ever need extra paper at home to practice writing, please let us know. Our math activities will include shape collages, identifying shapes by feel, a directional activity “Which Way Did I Go?” and spin the number. We will also be working on activities that help the boys match and identify colors and color words.

Our first box-top collection for the year happened this week. Thanks to all of you who sent in so many boxtops. Please keep them coming!

TASK	DUE
Work on the Panama Canal questions in preparatin for the discussion test. I gave a short review to the classes today, but I had to leave early so A8 watched a video of the review in class. It will be on the server Tuesday.	9/6

What another fun week! The boys learned the letter C, continued identifying numbers 0 through 5, and focused on our all about me theme. We introduced the C sound by making our camera letter card, looking at objects in our C buckets and brainstorming words that begin with the letter C. Other fun activities included a language arts activity on the laptops and a cap throw into numbered cups. Also, this week, we have loved learning even more about your boys during our all about me theme! We painted self-portraits after looking at several different famous artists’ portraits on the SmartBoard. The boys paid very close attention to the detail in these portraits and did a great job painting their own! We also read several books such as I Like Myself, I Like Me, and Clifford’s Family that encouraged each boy to realize how special they are as well as how special their family is! We discussed many likes and differences in our families and emphasized that everyone in our classroom is a special gift from God! Thank you for sharing your boys with us! We look forward to another great week!

Reminders:

- Labor Day Holiday is this Monday, September 6 – No School

- Please keep sending in Family crests, family pictures, baby pictures, etc.

- Next Thursday is Community Helper Dress Up Day – Please have your son wear shoes that coincide with dress code (tennis shoes) with his costume. Thanks!

Congratulations to Howard Graham who had the closest estimate of the number of marbles in the jar! He won the vanilla pound cake, and Elijah was very excited today!

Parents, thanks for coming to Parent Night, and hopefully the information provided to you with help make this a year of "Smooth Riding" for you and your sons!
The reading log begins this coming Monday. Therefore, our first reading log is due Monday, Sept. 13.

THIS WEEK IN SK
