Thanks,

Athletic Dept.

Dear 6th Grade Parents,

The PDS Athletic Dept. is excited about Crusader Golf for Spring 2020. The team will be led by Coach Ross Spain.

Due to the time and training involved, the Athletic Dept. encourages you and your son to thoughtfully evaluate whether or not he wants to make this commitment. Once the season begins, the boys will average 2 to 3 activities per week. Boys will practice on Mondays and Tuesdays and participate in matches on Thursdays.

Also know, due to conflicting schedules, if you choose to participate in the Crusader Golf program, you may not participate on the Crusader Track team. Please note that soccer games are only on Wednesdays and Fridays, therefore boys who choose to participate on the golf team or run on the track team may still play in the PDS Intramural Soccer League.

TRY-OUTS: We will hold a two day try-out on Monday, November 4th from 3:30-6:00pm and Tuesday, November 5thfrom 3:30-6:00pm at Galloway Golf Course. Boys should be dropped off and picked up at the clubhouse.

For the 8 boys who are selected for the golf team, the cost is $175.00 (you will be billed by the school).

Any boy that has not previously submitted a physical and the necessary concussion and cardiac arrest forms need to do so before try-outs. All forms can be turned in to the school nurse.

If you have any questions, please contact me at 842–4626 or dsmith@pdsmemphis.org. You will be receiving more information on the first day of practice. As always, thank you for your support and here’s to a great season!

Dear 6th Grade Parents,

The Athletic Dept. is excited about the upcoming Crusader basketball season. Mark Fruitt and Palmer Albertine will coach the team.

TRY-OUTS: Try-outs for the Crusader basketball team will be held on Monday, October 28th from 3:30–5:30pm and Tuesday, October 29th from 3:30–5:30pm in the PDS gym. Boys should be picked up at the main entrance at 5:30pm. Try-outs will be closed to all parents and spectators.

The Crusader basketball team is designed for boys who want additional opportunities for basketball practice and games. However, playing time is not guaranteed. While it will be more intense and competitive than our intramural basketball program, it will be consistent with our philosophy and high standards relating to sportsmanship and keeping athletics within a proper framework.

Assuming that more boys try out than the 10 spots available for the team, we will have to make cuts (unlike Crusader football). Before try-outs, we will talk to the boys about their attitudes and responses to the selection process. We hope and think that our 6th grade boys are mature enough to handle the disappointments that some of them may experience by not being chosen. Boys that play Crusader Basketball are also encouraged to play in the Intramural league. The two programs do not conflict. Looking forward to a great season!

Thanks,
Dennis Smith
